The Engagement of Heather + Josh

My precious Heather is getting married!  After many years of seeing these 2 grow over the years, I am thrilled to be a part of these two coming together in marriage!  Common law says they’ve probably been married for close to a decade, but who’s counting – this way we finally have a big party to attend!  They will be tying the knot at a local film house – a nod towards their love of everything film and television.  I jumped at the idea to shoot their engagement pictures in the theatre they will be exchanging vows in!

The Wedding of Amanda Steele

One of my closest friends got married right before the holidays, Amanda.  It was a quick engagement for the happy couple of many years.  She asked me to document the “getting ready at the salon” phase of her wedding day – and here are just a few of the many shots of her, the bridesmaids, and the Moms getting ready.

Local Product Shoot with: The Knotty Knitter!

Local knitter, Beth Sthay, makes some amazing products – all with yarn!  We collaborated on a recent shoot of her products – scarves and drink mittens – for her soon-to-be website!  Special thanks to model Taylor for helping us out!

The Imperial Court of Massachusetts

Since moving back from Canada in 2013, I’ve had the honour of working with a fantastic, gorgeous and philanthropic group of fabulous people called the Imperial Court of Massachusetts (ICMA).

They are one of over a hundred chapters located throughout Canada, Mexico and the USA that give back to their communities, especially within the GLBT community.  Their shows, balls and coronations always give back to some amazing causes and I’ve had the pleasure of photographing numerous events of theirs.  Here’s looking ahead to 2017 and continuing my work them.

Big News Coming Soon / Re-Works / Around Town

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve wrote anything on here!

Stay tuned for some big news about RossKavPhoto..Studios…

I’ve also been going through some old photos from years past, re-working them.  Being re-inspried. It’s an incredible journey to visit shots that might not have worked for me then, but somehow work now.  There will be more in my #OldReDone series.

My First Magazine Cover!

I am proud and happy to share with everyone my first magazine cover!  I’ve been doing work for Pulse Magazine for a couple years now and this was my first cover for them.  The Worcester Music Awards is a great night to showcase local, regional and even national talent!  Below are some shots from the night and if you swing on over to my Portfolio, you will see the pages in the Published section.  Here’s to more shoots with the Pulse team!

Model: Taylor Loconto

Working with new models can create some amazing moments!  I had a session recently with newer model Taylor that blew us both away!  She is learning the ropes and I’m using my new light setup (thank you to the light gods that are Paul C Buff!!).  Here are some of my favorites from our session together.

Vocalist and all around stunner: Chelsea Pedano

You saw her here first!  Chelsea Pedano is a talented singer who graduated last year from Berklee College of Music here in Boston.  Her talent is currently being shared around the Philly area, so if you’re in town, look her up on Twitter to see what shows she’s doing.  @ChelseaPedano

In the Studio w| Gina

This amazing girl is moving back to L.A. soon, and we’re going to miss her!  I had the pleasure of shooting her in my old studio, with some amazing results!  Thanks, Gina!

Music Video Award Nomination!

I got some wonderful news today!  The music video I worked on last summer with Justin Mayotte and Shanna Jackman has been nominated for MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR (solo artist) at the Limelight Magazine Awards 2016!  I was a 2nd shooter/camera operator on this particular shoot.

Many thanks to Justin and Shanna for including me on this project – one with such a positive message of support for our veterans.

Voting is open until March 4th – so throw a vote our way! <— Click here to vote!

I’m going to be in the new Ghostbusters movie (hopefully)!

Last June, I saw an ad online for an open casting cattle call for the new Ghostbusters movie filming later that summer throughout the Boston area.  I showed up on a chilly rainy day in South Boston, waited in line with a printed “selfie”, and dropped off my measurements with the casting company.  They told me (and the hundreds of others behind me): “We’ll call you if we need you.  Thank you.  NEXT!”

Miraculously, 2 weeks later I got a phone call from BD Casting asking if I was available the following Tuesday – but I missed the call!  The roll was of a waiter in a fancy dinner scene.  Art imitating life! – this was my calling!  I rang them back and they said they had found everyone they needed for that scene.   Cue the sad snoopy walk of sadness.

Cut to next Monday night.  Location: Five Horses Tavern.  I was bartending the evening shift, happily slinging beers to the locals when I got another call from the same number I had missed previously.  I broke all the rules and answered, squatting down behind the bar to find out what adventure I was in for.  They needed me the next day, Tuesday, for the dinner scene I had previously missed out on – but this time as a dinner guest, black ties and tuxedos only!  Hurrah!

Long story short, I worked a 15 hour day on the set of Ghostbusters the next day.  Funnily enough, I got to work with a long-lost friend from high school, Chelsea LeBeau-Heuter – fellow extra.  Our scene was intensely funny, brilliantly directed by Paul Feig (Freaks & Geeks, Bridesmaids, Spy Movie, etc).  I reluctantly can’t share more about the scene due to the NDA I signed, but I have my fingers crossed that the scene we filmed that day makes it into the final cut!

Feb 11/2016 UPDATE – No trailer…yet!  Hopefully in a week or two!

Music Videos!

Over the past year, I’ve worked on a few music videos for some very talented individuals.  2016 is shaping up for at least a few more!  As always, I’m grateful to Justin Mayotte Productions for always thinking of me as a stills photographer, behind the scenes, 2nd shooter, etc.

Brandon Richard | Fitness Model

After working on the Pulse Magazine Swimsuit Issue last summer, I met fitness aficionado Brandon Richard.  His dedication to nutrition, health and fitness is admirable.  Below are photos from our first shoot together – his first shoot altogether!  His goals toward running a fitness empire and as a successful fitness model are well within his reach.

In the Studio // Mikey

From the minute Mikey walked into the studio – we both knew we’d get along like chicken fingers and fries!  Mikey is starting out in the modeling world, and wanted to test the waters.  I think you’d have to agree that he did an outstanding job!  Here are some shots from our day together.

Jessie Chris Album Cover Photoshoot & BTS Video!

RossKavPhoto is back in action!  I’ve got a treasure trove of shoots to share with you – the first being from constant collaborator Jessie Chris!

From working on her music video for Chameleon to having the honour of shooting her Wildfire album cover, Jessie is always working hard on creating something special for her fans.  We shot at the stunning Sudbury Grist Mill for the day.  Fun behind the scenes story:  After ordering pizzas to be delivered to us, Jessie literally ran a half mile chasing after the poor delivery driver who drove right past us!

Look, Ma!  I’m on iTunes!

In Studio // Amanda Joy

Amanda and I did a shoot back in January – this time around, we both knew what we wanted, went for it and pushed ourselves to get some amazing images!  I can only imagine what we will come up with NEXT time!

Pride Month – Drag Queens and Bears, oh my!

June is traditionally Pride Month in many cities and Boston celebrated in style!  Last year, I had the privilege to celebrate in my other home city – Toronto.  This year, I stayed close to home.

My friend Henry Pacquin (Jr) has been putting on some amazing events over the past few years, giving back to the GLBT community and this year was no different.  I photographed 2 big events from OUTrageUS Productions: Drag Divas Give Back and Bearz Bare It All – all proceeds which went to the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition and The Waltham House: A group home for GLBTQ youth, respectively.  Thousands of dollars were raised at EACH event!

The Boston Pride Parade was extraordinary this year – Marco and the team put on a great, safe, festive and inclusive event for everyone!  Thank you!

PULSE Magazine Swimsuit Photoshoot

On shelves July 2 will be the Pulse Magazine 2015 Swimsuit Issue.  Pick your copy up at your local bar, pub and shop in and around the Worcester, MA area starting next week.  I assisted my constant collaborator Justin Mayotte once again for a fun, relaxed and inspiring shoot!  The models were nice enough to let me shoot some one-on-one’s with them after we got the shots for the magazine (Thank you models!).  Below are some BTS and a couple other shots from the day.

On Set with Shanna Jackman // Music Video

Last weekend was action packed on the set of Nashville recording artist Shanna Jackman‘s newest music video for her song “We’ve Got Your Back.”  At one point, I was hanging out the back of an SUV with a motorcycle gang driving directly towards me.  Directed by constant collaborator Justin Mayotte, I was actually a videographer for this shoot – instead of shooting stills.  The pictures below are from Steph Cerrato.  I thoroughly enjoyed shooting video, and want(need) to practice more on keeping my hands steady – and not forgetting the tripods!  The video should be out by Memorial Day and I will post it once it gets released!

Capturing the WMA’s for Pulse Magazine

The Worcester Music Awards were handed out last month at Jillian’s in Worcester, MA.  I was on hand to take pictures of the performances for Worcester’s Pulse Magazine – the host of the awards!  Check out the full issue here: PULSE Mag – May 2015.

BMAX Promo Shoot

I was the photo assistant on a recent promo shoot for the upcoming BMAX Fitness website – launching soon!  Andy Berler – trainer to the Patriots Cheerleaders (and now the Redskins cheerleaders), will be launching his site BMAXStrong.com on May 26th!

On Location with Alexander Thyng

Rising model Alexander Thyng is very comfortable in front of the camera.  I recently came to know him through his Instagram and we decided to shoot together – albeit a brief shoot!  There will be more to come with this model as him and I concoct some crazy, funky, edgy shoots over the next few months.

In Studio // Fitness model WarriorMazen

Just a couple shots from a shoot I recently had with Mazen – an aspiring fitness model from the Boston area.  We’ve got a few more shoots booked in the coming months, so stay tuned for more pics and eventually video from this stunning model.  He is a champion boxer and stunning parkour enthusiast.

In Studio // Nashville Recording Artist: Jessie Chris

After photographing BTS on her Chameleon and Country Girl video shoots, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know the talented Jessie Chris!  After helping out on a recent interview and soundcheck for Country Ave, we decided to do a proper photoshoot!  Here are the results in all their grandeur!

Check out Jessie Chris‘ new EP on iTunes!

In the Studio // Amanda Joy & David O

I’m just beginning my adventure into studio photography!  Thank you Justin Mayotte for the facilities and the opportunity.

Country music interviewer-to-the-stars, Amanda Joy and her lovely beau David O were patient enough to sit for me – and we had a blast!  Professionals, all the way!

Jeff Timmons (98 Degrees) & Jessie Chris

Shot a couple of days into the new year, Jeff Timmons (of 98 Degrees and Men of the Strip fame) sang a duet with Jessie Chris, a talented up and coming Nashville recording artist.  They sang “I Do (Cherish You)”.  Filmed at the famous Wilbur Theatre in Boston, MA.  Video directed by: Justin Mayotte.

No Blinkah Films – PERFECT PAIR

To start of 2015 with a bang, Steph Cerrato, Justin Mayotte and myself have created No Blinkah Films.  This small production company will be writing, producing and directing small shorts, films, advertisements, etc.  Our first project was based on a true story written by Steph and Justin.  We’ve got many ideas and are always looking for new collaborators from actors to make-up artists to stylists.

No Blinkah Films Facebook page coming soon.

For now, check out all the action here!

BMAX Fitness Video Shoot

Another amazing shoot and January isn’t even done yet!  Andy Berler, official trainer of the Patriots Cheerleaders (among many other skills!), has created an impressive workout and fitness company called BMAX.  He was assisted by the fit, talented and beautiful Lauren, Kristen and Madelyn of the Patriots Cheerleaders, the day after their AFC Championship win (without missing a beat, might I add)!  Prepare to Activate!

Check out BMAX.

Director of the video: Justin Mayotte.
